The Charlotte Hornets worked out six potential second round picks today. Guards Ralston Turner, Antonio Robinson, D.J. Newbill, and James Sinclair joined J.J. O'Brien and Kendall Gray in the Queen City.
While not household names, the Hornets are seemingly committed to making the most out of their second round pick. It's easy to forget that the Hornets have both the ninth and the 39th pick. Some teams neglect doing their due diligence on potential second round selections and end up with duds every year. Others, like the Sacramento Kings, have uncovered numerous gems over the years.
There's a common misconception that the second round is even more of a crap shoot than the first, but that's simply not true. If you know what to look for and you're putting the time in, you can improve your chances of finding a serviceable NBA player considerably. And the Hornets are doing just that.
Because these guys aren't known commodities, footage of them can be hard to find. After scouring YouTube for a while, I've found some stuff for Turner (nice stroke!), a Robinson highlight mix, a collection of in-game plays from Newbill (looks like a steady player), dunks from Sinclair, a single dunk from O'Brien, and an amazing piece of artistry featuring explosive dunks from Kendall Gray backed by an R&B song about wanting to be rich. I'd draft Gray just for that video. Heck, it's so fun I'm embedding it.
Jokes aside, Turner, Newbill and Gray are intriguing based on the limited footage available.
