At The Hive helps Charlotte Hornets players write emoji-based tweets

New, comments

The emoji is now the official language of the NBA, and the Hornets needed help. So I helped them.

If you've been away from the internet today, you missed one of Basketball Twitter's greatest moments.

Long story short, DeAndre Jordan is second guessing his decision to sign with the Dallas Mavericks, and the Los Angeles Clippers signalled they were rushing to Texas to meet Jordan with, well, emojis. In response, the Mavs also used emojis to tell the world that they too were going to meet Jordan.

Numerous players jumped in on the fun, and quite honestly I hadn't laughed that hard in a long time. It was great in real time. You can get a solid recap of it all here. It's well worth your time.

In honor of Basketball Twitter's newfound love for the emoji, I decided to help some Charlotte Hornets players rework their tweets into emoji-based messages. It wasn't easy, and I have so much respect for people who use them often to communicate thoughts and ideas. Here's what I came up with:

Jeremy Lamb

Suggestion: Lamb's tweet is pretty straightforward. Not much work is needed to make it a bonafide emoji tweet.

Kemba Walker

Suggestion: Walker's tweet is tricky. There's nothing even remotely close to Powerade in the emoji, catalogue, so I had to get creative with this one. All branded tweets are tricky.

Cody Zeller

Suggestion: Zeller's tweet was the easiest. It all translates well, and it looks a lot like a tweet you'd see on Twitter.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

Suggestion: MKG has the happiest tweet, and it wasn't hard to emoji-ize it, either. Keep doing good work, Mike.

Nicolas Batum

Suggestion: First, you'll need a translation here. Batum's tweet roughly means "not to be missed", which made the monkey an easy choice.

Frank Kaminsky

Suggestion: Easy. "You, trash. Kids, good."

Michael Jordan

Suggestion: Heh.

Touché, Mike. Touché.
