If you've been away from the internet today, you missed one of Basketball Twitter's greatest moments.
Long story short, DeAndre Jordan is second guessing his decision to sign with the Dallas Mavericks, and the Los Angeles Clippers signalled they were rushing to Texas to meet Jordan with, well, emojis. In response, the Mavs also used emojis to tell the world that they too were going to meet Jordan.
Numerous players jumped in on the fun, and quite honestly I hadn't laughed that hard in a long time. It was great in real time. You can get a solid recap of it all here. It's well worth your time.
In honor of Basketball Twitter's newfound love for the emoji, I decided to help some Charlotte Hornets players rework their tweets into emoji-based messages. It wasn't easy, and I have so much respect for people who use them often to communicate thoughts and ideas. Here's what I came up with:
Thank u Okc For everything yall have taught me!!! Great teammates great fans!!! Taught me great… https://t.co/Lb0D9DvEQ1— J Lamb (@jlamb) June 25, 2015
Suggestion: Lamb's tweet is pretty straightforward. Not much work is needed to make it a bonafide emoji tweet.
Looking forward to the Powerade State Games. Will be at the @CorePower tent!!— Kemba walker (@KembaWalker) June 19, 2015
Suggestion: Walker's tweet is tricky. There's nothing even remotely close to Powerade in the emoji, catalogue, so I had to get creative with this one. All branded tweets are tricky.
Wouldn't it be a bummer if the tv crew missed that conversation..."Shoot! Camera wasn't rolling! My bad guys! Can we do that one more time?"— Cody Zeller (@CodyZeller) July 7, 2015
Suggestion: Zeller's tweet was the easiest. It all translates well, and it looks a lot like a tweet you'd see on Twitter.
What an amazing experience today at the National Stuttering Association conference. Many of you are an inspiration to me, thanks. @westutter— Mike Kidd-Gilchrist (@MKG14) July 4, 2015
Suggestion: MKG has the happiest tweet, and it wasn't hard to emoji-ize it, either. Keep doing good work, Mike.
À ne rater sous aucun prétexte https://t.co/gUaBIfB0yc— Nicolas Batum (@nicolas88batum) July 6, 2015
Suggestion: First, you'll need a translation here. Batum's tweet roughly means "not to be missed", which made the monkey an easy choice.
Our 3rd graders are probably already better than you https://t.co/ymXGvnGB3B— Frank Kaminsky III (@FSKPart3) July 7, 2015
Suggestion: Easy. "You, trash. Kids, good."

Touché, Mike. Touché.
