Nicolas Batum will not play Sunday against the Los Angeles Lakers

Nicolas Batum continues to battle injuries as he's out Sunday against the Los Angeles Lakers

Nicolas Batum has been battling injuries for much of the last month, and it looks like they'll be sidelining him once again. In a tweet sent out by the Charlotte Hornets PR account, Batum has been listed out for tonight's game against the Los Angeles Lakers along with Al Jefferson and Cody Zeller.

Batum is coming off arguably his worst game of the year. His only made basket of the night was a lone 3-pointer, and never looked comfortable when trying to shoot. It's likely that the toe injury he suffered earlier this season is still bothering him, and the Hornets decided that it wold be best for him to rest on it until he's able to effectively play again.

This caps off a very frustrating January for Batum. He's only played in nine games, and shot 31.9 percent from the field when he has played. It's commendable that he's been fighting through injury to get on the floor, but considering how much he's struggled it might be for the best if he sits out until he's fully healed this time around.

On the other hand, Batum and the Hornets haven't had much of a choice but to play him. With so many injuries over the last month he and the team were probably just trying to get him on the floor whenever he was in good enough shape to play. Hopefully the return of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will give Batum some more time to properly rest his injury and make a full recovery. Let's just hope this isn't one of those injuries that doesn't really go away during the season, and obsessionally flares up, because if that's the case then he could be in for a long second half to the season.
