Kemba Walker has cemented himself as one of the all time greats to ever put on a Charlotte Hornets uniform. With a jumpshot against the Portland TrailBlazers, Walker has passed Larry Johnson on the all time scoring list. Walker now sits in third behind Gerald Wallace and Dell Curry.
Walker’s legacy with the Hornets grows every night. Ready to make his first All-Star appearance this season he’s an example of what hard work can bring. He did not immediately enter the NBA as the efficient scoring machine he’s been this season. He came in inefficient, shot heavy, and no real touch inside or out. Over the years longtime watchers of Charlotte have seen his improvement first hand. His improvement at the rim, and the shots that used to not fall finally dropping in. It’s been a long road.
The player Walker passes is one of the long time Hornets fans will always remember. Larry Johnson’s thunderous dunks and defense were a huge part of what made those 90’s teams special. They may have never reached the highest accomplishments but they created basketball fans in the Charlotte, and Johnson was a big part of that.
With Walker, Hornets basketball is back in a way the area hasn’t seen in a long time. It’s been with him that Charlotte pulled themselves out of the dark days of the Bobcats and back into playoff contention as the Hornets. He’s likely to be with Charlotte for a long time and break many more records on the way. Wallace and Curry better look out.
