The Charlotte Hornets have assigned rookies Malik Monk and Dwayne Bacon to their G-League affiliate the Greensboro Swarm, per the team:
The Swarm’s next game is tomorrow at home against the Wisconsin Herd.
The assignment isn’t all that surprising. The Hornets shortened their rotation in recent games in order to play the starters more minutes. That pushed Bacon and Monk pretty much out of the rotation, with only Monk getting a few minutes sporadically. This gives them a chance to get heavy minutes and gain some confidence moving forward.
I don’t expect the assignment to last too long unless the Hornets are planning another move. They have an open roster spot, so there’s a chance they could be signing another player that would seemingly fill the role of these two. But please understand that I’m purely speculating.
Right now, I see this as a one-game assignment. The Hornets play again on December 27th at home to the Boston Celtics. Monk and Bacon could play tomorrow, then drive back up to Charlotte for Wednesday’s game. We’ve already seen other G-League assignments go back and forth in a matter of 24 hours, so the same could happen here.
All that said, we’ve got a chance to watch Monk and Bacon play significant roles in a professional basketball game tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. The problem, however, is that the game doesn’t appear to broadcast on Facebook Live (as many of them typically are), and I’m not sure if, or where, another feed will be available. If anyone knows of a legal stream, be sure to let us know in the comments.
UPDATE: The game will be broadcast on NBA TV.
