The Charlotte Hornets ended the 2017 Orlando Summer League with a win, defeating the Orlando Magic, 86-79. Dwayne Bacon finished with 29 points and eight rebounds to lead all scorers.

Charlotte led for much of the game, but broke the score open in the second quarter, and lead by 9 at halftime. Their lead grew in the third, but Orlando nearly came back, cutting it to one with under a minute remaining. However, a 3-pointer (the first of the game for Charlotte) from Johnny O’Bryant III all but sealed the win:

O’Bryant also had a nice game, finishing with 23 points and five rebounds. It was his second consecutive game of 20 points or more, after scoring 26 yesterday in a loss to the Detroit Pistons.

Briante Weber also finished summer league nicely, totaling 16 points, five rebounds, four steals, and two assists.

Bacon was undoubtedly the star, however, showcasing his strengths as a scorer by getting to the rim and hitting from mid-range. This coast-to-coast drive was particularly nice:

The 3-point shot and defense on the other end need work, but Bacon improved as the week went on, and should head into training camp feeling confident.

With summer league wrapped up, it’s on to training camp for a few of this summer’s roster. We’ll have more on how different players fared in Orlando later on.
