The Charlotte Hornets have sent Johnny O’Bryant, a 2020 second-round pick, and a 2021 second-round pick to the New York Knicks for Willy Hernangomez.
This trade is a stunner. There were no reports whatsoever claiming the Hornets were pursuing the young European center.

It is far too early to tell if the Charlotte Hornets won or lost this trade. It seems like the Hornets ended up with the best player in this trade, though we won’t know for sure what those picks will become until 2021.
Hernangomez is averaging 4.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and shooting 60 percent from the field this season. But the common sentiment around the NBA blogosphere is that he was underplayed in New York.
One of the main talking points of this trade is what else Charlotte will do after completing this trade since their frontcourt is somewhat crowded now. The assumption is that one of Marvin Williams, Cody Zeller, Frank Kaminsky, or Dwight Howard will be sent out to make way for Hernangomez.
We’ll see what happens.
