The Charlotte Hornets will return home following a difficult three game road trip that saw the team go winless. Things don’t get easier as the Hornets’ opponent tonight will be the Philadelphia 76ers, who defeated Charlotte on Friday night, 110-99.
In that game, the 76ers had five players score in double figures, led by Joel Embiid’s 23 points and 15 rebounds. Newcomer Ersan Ilyasova scored 18 points in 23 minutes off the bench.
The Hornets were led by Kemba Walker, who poured in 31, and Frank Kaminsky, who added 19 off the bench. Nicolas Batum also had a nice all-around effort with 14 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists.
Dwight Howard had one of his worst games of the season as he battled foul trouble all night. Howard only scored 6 points and pulled down 6 rebounds in the losing effort.
If the Hornets are going to win the rematch, Howard must stay out of foul trouble in order to keep Embiid in check. Charlotte doesn’t have another big who can match up with Embiid defensively which makes Dwight’s presence on the court essential.
With Howard only able to log 25 minutes, the Hornets were out rebounded 46-39 in Philadelphia. The Sixers were able to get into the paint with ease which is a big reason why the team shot 50.6 percent from the field despite only hitting 9-of-24 from 3-point range.
Charlotte will be without Michael Carter-Williams in the rematch as the guard will miss the game with a shoulder injury. Look for Batum to play some backup point guard while Clifford may also choose to give rookie Malik Monk or Julyan Stone some run.
