The Brooklyn Nets have selected have selected Hamidou Diallo with the 45th overall pick for the Charlotte Hornets. Technically, Brooklyn holds this pick until the Dwight Howard trade becomes official on July 6th. Diallo will be third pick by the Hornets in this draft after selecting Miles Bridges 12th overall and taking Devonte Graham with the 34th overall pick (which they acquired from the Atlanta Hawks for two future second rounders).
Diallo spent one season at Kentucky and averaged 10 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 24.8 minutes per game. He shot 42.8 percent from the field and 33.8 percent from 3.
Athletically, Diallo is ready for the NBA. However, he will have to develop his offensive skill set if he is to stick around in the league. But with head coach James Borrego’s emphasis on player development, you can view Diallo as a project worth committing to.
Diallo is being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The deal can’t be completed until the moratorium ends on July 6th. We’ll likely find out the compensation then.
