Malik Monk is out 6-8 weeks with a fractured right thumb, according to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer.
Monk injured the thumb on the last play of yesterday’s, 88-87, win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Summer League.
The news means Monk’s summer league is effectively over after one game. He scored 23 points in Friday’s win over the Thunder, hitting 9-for-16 from the field and 4-for-7 from 3. He tailed two assists, but, more importantly, committed just one turnover. The staff praised his decision making, which they say is most important for him to improve heading into next season.
While it’s better for this to happen now than during the season, it’s still a setback that comes during an important offseason for the second year pro. He should be able to participate in the majority of individual and team workouts while wearing a cast, but he won’t be able to shoot for the next couple of months. Hopefully he is ready for training camp.
