Hornets waive Josh Perkins and Joe Chealey

The Hornets have trimmed their roster as the preseason rolls along.

Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer is reporting that the Charlotte Hornets have waived guards Josh Perkins and Joe Chealey.

Chealey and Perkins were both on Exhibit 10 deals, meaning they were always likely destined for the Greensboro Swarm. Expect to see both of them sign there in the coming days and weeks.

The Hornets are trimming down their roster with just two preseason games remaining. It makes sense to focus more on the key roster guys as the season approaches instead of having them cede reps and minutes to players bound for the Swarm.

With that in mind, the Hornets probably won’t fill the two vacated roster spots. The roster has to be cut down to 15 players by the time the regular season tips off next week. Mitch Kupchak and the Hornets front office like to leave spot open for flexibility, so the Hornets still have another three to four players to cut in the coming days.
