The Hornets will get their last chance to fine tune things when the Pistons come to town tonight. Typically the last preseason game is when the regular rotation players get the least amount of run, but that may not be the case for a young Hornets team. A couple fringe roster players have already been cut, so the bench isn’t quite as deep. But Caleb Martin, Kobi Simmons, and Jalen McDaniels will have one more chance to prove they deserve one of the last two spots on the roster. The Hornets will be without Nicolas Batum and Marvin Williams tonight, but Cody Martin should be back.
The Pistons will be playing their second game in as many nights, which makes it tough to predict how their rotation will shake out tonight. Blake Grffin sat out last night with hamstring soreness while Andre Drummond was a healthy scratch. They might play tonight, they might not. I have no idea.
Derrick Rose and Christian Wood have been the headline grabbers this preseason. Rose has been better than incumbent starter Reggie Jackson, who Pistons fans have been ready to replace for years now. Wood has looked deserving of a roster spot, but it’s unclear if one is available for him.
A couple other things worth watching:
- Former Big 3 MVP Joe Johnson looks to reestablish himself as an NBA player. He’s gotten limited minutes so far and hasn’t done a whole lot with them.
- Sekou Doumbouya, a fan favorite for the Hornets to take with the 12th overall pick last spring, has been toiling away at the bottom of the Pistons roster. He’s played 18 minutes across three games and has scored five points on 2-of-8 shooting.
