The Hornets lose to the Bulls in heartbreaking fashion, 116-115

This was one of the most absurd endings to a basketball game you'll see.

Zach LaVine made 13 3-pointers, including the game winner in a 49 point effort to take down the Charlotte Hornets, 116-115.

The Hornets opened the scoring with a Cody Zeller layup off a nice touch pass from Miles Bridges, but the Bulls answered with ten of the next twelve points. A seven point spurt by Coby White put the Hornets in a double digit deficit for the sixteenth game this season. After one, the Hornets trailed 34-23.

Devonte' Graham hit a pair of step back 3-pointers early in the second quarter to give the Hornets offense a jolt. They continued to struggle on defense though, letting the Bulls gobble up offensive boards and leaving them open for 3-pointers on the perimeter. James Borrego tried to rectify those problems with some Cody Matin minutes, and it resulted in a 6-0 Hornets run. The good times didn't last long, as some sloppy offensive basketball led to run outs for the Bulls and put the Hornets in a 14 point hole. A couple big blocks by Bridges on a single possession led to a Devonte Graham run out that was part of a 7-0 run to bring the Hornets within seven at the half.

The Hornets tightened the screws a little bit on the defensive end and slowly cut into their deficit as the quarter went along. A couple baby hooks from Marvin Williams gave the Hornets their first lead since they went up 2-0 to start the game. A Bismack Biyombo dunk and Williams 3-pointer put the Hornets up five heading into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter started off in electric fashion.

The Hornets led by as many as 12 before the Bulls battled back into the game. A Marvin Williams vs Zach LaVine battle broke out in the middle of the quarter, with the pair combining for 20 points in a five minute span. The Bulls pulled within two, but the Hornets responded with six straight points. Terry Rozier hit what should've been a dagger 3-pointer to put the Hornets up eight with a minute to go. Zach LaVine made a couple of stupid 3-pointers to keep the Bulls within striking distance.

Devonte' Graham hit two free throws to put the Hornets up five with 14.7 seconds to go. Tomas Satoransky hit a three with eight seconds to go. The Hornets turned the ball over on the ensuing inbound, and Zach Lavine dribbled out to the 3-point line to hit the game winner.

Devastating loss aside, the Hornets did some good things. Terry Rozier made big plays down the stretch en route to a 28 point night. Devonte' Graham has a double double with 18 points and 10 assists. Marvin Williams had 21 points on 9-of-10 shooting.

The Hornets will hit the road to take on the Miami Heat on Monday.
