Charlotte lost a tough one Tuesday night against the Clippers and tonight they’ll turn right around and face a Dallas team that’s completely different than the squad that defeated them January 2nd.
Kristaps Porzingis was acquired by Dallas along with Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee from the Knicks in exchange for Wesley Matthews, DeAndre Jordan and 2017 first-round pick Dennis Smith Jr.
Expect the Hornets, who should come out motivated after blowing a 20-point lead against LA last night, to take advantage of a new-look Mavs team that’s still figuring things out post-trade. The bitter taste of their 122-84 thrashing last month should also add a few logs to the fire for Kemba and company.
Defense will be the key to sealing a victory tonight for the Hornets. Rookie Luka Doncic matched his season high with 35 points in Dallas’ Saturday win over the Cavs. The Hornets cannot allow him to go off like that again tonight. Charlotte will also have to bring back the strong 4th quarter play that secured victories against Chicago and Memphis - they were out-scored 33-23 against the Clippers.
Owner Michael Jordan says he’s motivated to make the playoffs and now is the time for Charlotte to start making a push.
