Things have been rough for the Hornets since the All-Star break wrapped up in Charlotte. The home team has dropped five of their last seven and currently find themselves on the outside looking in of the 2019 NBA playoffs. But the Hornets hope to turn things around Friday night when they play the (27-37) Washington Wizards.
Sitting two games behind Charlotte in the playoff race, Washington is just as desperate for a win as the Hornets. Unlike Charlotte, the Bradley Beal led Wizards, are trending in a positive direction - winning their last two games against Dallas and Minnesota. Bradley Beal, who’s been playing lights out over the last 5 games - averaging 29.4 points per game, has been adamant that their goal is to make the post season. A win road win over the Hornets would go a long way in making that happen.
The Hornets have put together a few good quarters over the last few contests, but have found themselves struggling to seal the deal in the fourth. A bright spot over the last couple of weeks has been the play of Frank Kaminsky - who has averaged 17.6 points over the last 3 games. But his boost off the bench hasn’t been enough to win the last couple of contests. The Hornets have to find a way not to fade in the 4th quarter and that starts with the emphasis head coach James Borrego places on finishing games strong.
There is a silver lining. One of the three teams the Hornets have beaten over the last 12 games was Washington - who they defeated 123-110 in both team’s first game after the All-Star break. Let’s see if they can bring that magic back tonight.
