It’s officially draft season. The Charlotte Hornets will host their first round of pre-draft workouts on Wednesday, May 1. For comparison, they didn’t host their first round of pre-draft workouts until May 25 last season. General manager Mitch Kupchak and co. aren’t messing around this offseason. It seems like they are poised to use every available day to get a look at guys going into the draft in June.

Wedneday’s group of participants are all of the late flier or camp invite variety. They are:

  • Nicolas Claxton, Sophomore, Forward, Georgia
  • Chris Clemons, Senior, Guard, Campbell
  • Hassani Gravett, Senior, Guard, South Carolina
  • Dewan Hernandez, Junior, Forward, Miami (FL)
  • Ronshad Shabazz, Senior, Guard, Appalachian State
  • LaGerald Vick, Senior, Guard, Kansas

None of the players are currently projected to be drafted in June, but there are still some interesting names.

Chris Clemons led the NCAA in scoring last season with 30.1 points per game for the Campbell Fighting Camels. He’s a prolific outside shooter, canning over four 3-pointers per game last season, but he’s only 5’9” and he’s as score-first as they come. He only averaged 2.8 assists per game as a senior.

LaGerald Vick and Dewan Hernandez were both highly regarded recruits that had tumultuous college careers that ended prematurely. Vick took a leave of absence in February and didn’t return by the end of the season. Hernandez was ruled ineligible for roughly a calendar year for what the NCAA deemed impermissible benefits.
