McDaniels has floated around as a popular late round flier among many fans. He’s a tall, long forward with tremendous defensive potential. He didn’t shoot particularly well from the perimeter, but he did improve his 3-point shooting from 21.1% as a freshman to 32.0% as a sophomore while more than tripling his attempts. He also shot over 75% from the free throw line and averaged 11.3 rebounds per 40 minutes for his career.
McDaniels will join the Hornets with little expectations. He’ll probably have to make an impact on the defensive end of the court at first while he rounds out his offensive game and adds some skill.
With this pick, the Hornets night is done. General Manager Mitch Kupchak said in a pre-draft presser last week that he anticipated all three of tonight’s picks being on next season’s roster, so get used to them I guess.
