The Hornets will take a break from playing NBA hopefuls to take on the Chinese national team that’s using the summer league as an opportunity to prepare themselves for the basketball World Cup later this year.

The Hornets are coming off a tough loss to the Spurs on Sunday afternoon. They played well for spurts, but the Spurs ended each of the last three quarters with significant runs, and the Hornets weren’t able to overcome them. The defense was an issue during those runs, and tonight is a good opportunity to right the ship in that regard.

Team China has struggled badly so far in Summer League. They’ve lost both of their previous two contests by 41 and 17 points respectively. Neither game was particularly close at any point in the second halves, with the games being all but decided in the first three quarters of play.

They’ve struggled mightily on the offensive end of the court. In their first game of the Summer League, Team China shot 30.8% from the field while turning the ball over 17 times. They upped their field goal percentage to a strong 47.1% against the Sacramento Kings, but turned the ball over 22 times while shooting 38.5% from the free throw line.

The Hornets should get a win tonight, regardless of whether or not Miles Bridges, Dwayne Bacon, and Devonte’ Graham play. Team China has struggled on both ends of the floor through two games, so this is a good opportunity for some of the fringe guys to put in some good work.
