The team did not disclose the nature of the contracts, but if I had to guess, they’re probably Exhibit 10 contracts. For those of you unfamiliar, Exhibit 10 contracts are typically non-guaranteed deals that give the player a bonus for signing with an NBA team’s G League affiliate upon being released by the NBA team. It’s a way to keep guys in the system.
Joe Chealey spent some time with the Hornets last season on a two-way deal. His only appearance game in the Hornets 32-point loss to the Boston Celtics in late January. Chealey scored two points in eight minutes of garbage time. He made more of an impact in the G League for the Greensboro Swarm, with whom he averaged 16.3 points and 5.3 assists per game across 43 appearances.
Josh Perkins is a newcomer to the NBA. The Hornets brought him in as an undrafted free agent out of Gonzaga. He impressed in the Summer League with his confidence from three and passing ability, highlighted by a game against the Spurs where he scored 14 points and dished five assists while converting 4-of-7 3-point attempts.
