FanPulse: Hornets fan confidence takes a dip as losses mount

New, comments

The Hornets have lost 12 of their last 14 games, and fans don’t feel great about it.

The Charlotte Hornets have lost 12 of their last 14 games, and it has Hornets fans feeling uneasy. Fan confidence has taken a notable dip in the last week.

Even with the drop, about 75% of Hornets fans are feeling confident in the direction of the team. The losses aren’t fun, but there is a silver lining in the team’s draft positioning. The team’s unexpected success had them destined for another late lottery pick. Now the Hornets are flirting with top five draft positioning. Unfortunately, this draft looks really weak right now.

Nationally, NBA fans were asked which player they most wanted to see traded. Their answer was the one of the most visibly disgruntled players we’ve seen take the court in a long time.

I was asked how other teams’ fans were feeling in these same surveys. Most fans are generally confident with their teams, with some like the Heat, Lakers, Clippers, Grizzlies, etc. hovering around 100% all season. But it’s no fun looking at people who are enjoying themselves. This is a place for schadenfreude. These are some of my favorites.

Two of the NBA’s biggest markets are home to two of the most poorly run franchises in the league (and I know they just love that). Even in October, when everyone sees hope and optimism in the new season, these teams’ fans weren’t feeling good.

You can see Knicks fans feel a jolt of optimism when their new head coach was able to coax a three game winning streak out of his cast of misfit toys, but that novelty is wearing out. We’ll have to revisit this survey when they surely get that big fish free agent they’ve been chasing for five years.

Last week in my game preview I talked about how the Blazers couldn’t string together good performances. It’s like trying to start a car but it keeps dying right when you think the engine is about to turn. Their fan confidence reflects that.

This one is kind of Hornets related, and it’s my personal favorite.

That two week stretch where Pistons fan confidence was near zero? That’s when the Hornets were repeatedly stealing the Pistons’ lunch money. Their fans were clearly none too pleased.
