Bouknight is coming off a sophomore season at UConn where he averaged 18.7 points per game and was All Big East. His shooting numbers weren’t great in college, but he apparently shot the lights out in workouts and has the form and confidence to become a very good shooter in time.
Bouknight adds a scoring punch to the Hornets guard/wing rotation, and he’ll fit in very well with the athleticism and floor spacing that the Hornets have on their roster. He has the potential to be a lockdown defender as well.
The Hornets have had success in recent seasons drafting sophomores like Miles Bridges and PJ Washington. They’ve also had success drafting scorers out of UConn (Kemba Walker, in case you forgot). Bouknight is both of those things.
And to toot my own horn, I took Bouknight in our SB Nation blogger mock. Last year, I took LaMelo Ball, and that worked out pretty well. Hopefully we get that same good juju with this pick.
What grade do you give the Hornets pick of James Bouknight at 11th overall?
