Dallas Cowboys select LSU LB Damone Clark with 176th pick in 5th round of NFL draft

The Dallas Cowboys selected LSU linebacker Damone Clark with the 176th pick in the fifth round on Day 3 of the NFL draft Saturday. Clark averaged 11 tackles per game last season, a mark that ranked second in the nation. In four seasons at LSU, Clark racked up 249 total tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, four passes defended, a fumble recovery and an interception. Last season, Clark set career-highs in sacks (5.5), tackles for loss (15.5) and total tackles (135). Clark had spinal fusion surgery on March 24 and it’s unclear if he will contribute this season. He’s been out of a brace for three weeks and said he’s taking everything day by day. "All I needed was the opportunity," Clark told reporters on a conference call. "The opportunity presented itself, so I’m just grateful." Clark was assigned jersey No. 18 at LSU, a number rewarded to the player whose character best represents the university.
